We Value All in the Name of Jesus the Christ

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

The Early Years is a vital building block in a child's school career. At St. Joseph's, we place a high emphasis on fostering a love of learning by creating a safe and stimulating environment and by giving the children the tools to develop their independence and enquiry skills.

Within the Early Years, we follow a long term plan that clearly shows coverage of the following areas:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)

Making Relationships

Self-confidence and self awareness

Managing feelings and behaviour

Creating and Thinking Critically

Listening and Attention

Physical Development

Moving and Handling

Health and Self Care

Expressive Arts and Design

Exploring and using media and materials

Being Imaginative

Shape, Space and Measures

Understanding the World

People and Communities

The World

We include the children's own interests by asking the children to work together to choose their topic. The teachers then plan the content to meet the needs of the children through this topic. Children are assessed through ongoing observations using the Tapestry system of which parents have access to.

If you would like any additional information about the Early Years Curriculum, please speak to your child's class teacher.
