STAY AND PLAY
We regularly invite parents (COVID19 restrictions aside) into the unit to join their child in playing and exploring all of the environment and how it can be used to support your child's learning.

ADMISSIONS EXPLAINED
Applications to the Nursery are dealt with by us directly and should be made when children are between 2 and 2 ½ years old. We are able to offer funded places for 15 hours and 30 hours for some children depending on eligibility.

EYFS CURRICULUM
The Early Years is a vital building block in a child's school career. At St. Joseph's, we have a strong commitment to ensuring our children achieve a high level attainment but not at the expense of child initiated learning, a play based curriculum and some FUN!
In FS2 we deliver a structured Phonics (Read, Write, Inc) and Mathematics session each day as well as a weekly RE and PE session. Here we teach some of the knowledge and skills that the children are encouraged to apply through their free flow time. A lot of thought is put into our environment to enable the children to meet the ‘Early Learning Goals’ through child initiated play. This works alongside our 'in the moment planning' approach. This means we regularly identify children's current interests and plan and evaluate from day to day or during the moment it is happening. Staff are skilled at seizing the moment, when a child shows interest in an activity, which can be built upon and is a 'teachable moment'. We offer an environment that enables child initiated play.
